From Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen # 23, 1957.

Jimmy wants to investigate a secret society called the Beard Band (Z. Z. Top?) so puts on one of his disguises and is instantly caught (the unnamed leader tugs on his fake beard) however he makes a deal, drink this secret potion and sees what happens. In just a few minutes Olsen has a full beard. Then he’s given the news that the beard will grow around a foot an hour until he gets the antidote unless he goes around Metropolis and makes beard cool because everyone is impressed with Superman’s Pal.

Jimmy, of course, proceeds to ass hat things up making people laugh at beards. Mister Beard Band leader then reveals phase two, spiking the water of the Big Apricot giving everyone a beard whether they like it or not. (Making the Beard Band a sort of D – list Gorilla Grodd I guess) But Olsen tricks them into drinking the antidote and Superman breaks their beard juice making machine.

The Beard Band has never been seen again.

Item: beard growth tonic, causing any creature that consumes it to grow a beard at a rate of one foot of hair growth per hour until the antidote is consumed.

Item: beard antidote, causing any creature’s beard to fall out.
